Renovated Boutique Lake Cabin w/ Canoe & SUPs
Enjoy a break close to nature at the newly renovated Mountain Lake Bungalow with décor inspired by our native Sweden. Take the canoe or SUPs for a paddle, visit the seasonal beach, go for a walk along the lake, waterfall or in the forest reserve, visit Bethel Woods Center for the Arts/the original Woodstock site, brewery, Livingston Manor or cute Delaware River towns with great dining & shopping. At night, gather by the fire pit for s'mores under the stars or cozy up with a good book or movie.
You will be able to self check-in and out with our digital keyless door lock.
We live in NYC but are available via call or text and happy to answer your questions or resolve any issues that arise.
We love Smallwood - a friendly and quiet lake community with many cute little log cabins from the 1930s and 40s. We have a lake, waterfall, forest reserve with hiking trails, outdoor gym, post office, and restaurant within walking distance from the bungalow. Between July 1 and Labor Day, our guests also get access to Smallwood's own beach. To walk around the lake takes about 40 minutes.
This area of the Catskills offers every outdoor activity imaginable including swimming, hiking, canoeing, boating, tubing, rafting, fishing, cycling, ziplining, horseback riding, bird watching, apple picking, snowtubing and skiing/snowboarding.
The cabin is only a short drive from Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, the Museum at Bethel Woods/the original Woodstock site, buzzy design haven Livingston Manor, Resorts World Catskills, Legoland, Lake Superior State Park, the Catskills Craft Beverage Trail, great restaurants, cute shops and antique stores, harvest festivals, holiday markets and activities, farms (kids usually love the alpacas!) and farmers markets, New York State's largest indoor waterpark Kartrite, Forestburgh Playhouse, Kadampa Meditation Center New York, Monticello Casino and Raceway, Monticello Motor Club Off-Road Adventure, as well as picturesque river towns Narrowsburg and Callicoon.
You can check in and out by yourself with our keyless entry. You will be issued an access code for the duration of your stay - no keys to lose or return!

This is the most adorable 2 BR/1 BA country cabin from the 40s, updated with a brand new kitchen and bathroom offering vintage charm with modern conveniences. The front door leads into a spacious mudroom which opens up to the combined living/dining room with a dining table, sofa, and lounge chairs centered around the gas fireplace (no need to run out for firewood!). The adjoining fully stocked kitchen features an island with plenty of space to prepare meals. Both bedrooms have laptop-friendly workspaces and fast, reliable internet (200+ Mbps), providing a comfortable work-from-home setup. The deck, overlooking the beautiful woodland garden, features a sofa, two chairs, a picnic table and a Weber gas grill. The deck can be accessed from the kitchen as well as the downstairs bedroom. Right off the deck is a firepit with four comfy Adirondack chairs. The house is as cozy as it is functional.
***Please note that the upstairs bedroom (with a king bed), as well as the shower booth have low ceilings and people over 6 foot tall may find these spaces uncomfortable. ***
KITCHEN + DINING
The newly remodeled kitchen features a gas stove and compact dishwasher. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need to make a meal including a Moccamaster coffee maker, French press, microwave, toaster, and Nutri Ninja blender. We offer our guests coffee, tea, olive oil, and basic spices. The dining table comfortably seats 6 people. Please note that the kitchen and dining room windows do not have curtains/shades.
Our sofa is super comfy - perfect for cozy movie nights. The smart TV is logged in to Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video but you can of course log in to your own streaming service as well. If you want to play content from another device we have HDMI cables. Please note that the living room windows do not have curtains/shades.
The bedrooms feature a king (primary) and queen bed respectively, both with Allswell 's highly rated hybrid mattress (memory foam and innerspring coils), as well as laptop-friendly workspaces.
The roomy bathroom features a brand new shower, and the window faces the backyard. It has been remodeled for a thoroughly modern aesthetic.
The deck faces the backyard and a pretty wooded area. It features a gas BBQ, sofa, two lounge chairs, and a dining table. This is the perfect spot to enjoy your meals, sip your coffee or cocktail, read a book, relax, or watch the many birds and deer that frequent the area. We have string lights in the trees to enhance the atmosphere even more on those warm summer nights.
Just off the deck, we have a fire pit with four comfy Adirondack chairs.
We have a compact stackable washer and dryer in the kitchen.
The cabin is work-from-home friendly with fast Wi-Fi (200+ Mbps), desks in both bedrooms (one can be adjusted if you prefer to stand), and a printer.
WI-FI AND CELL SERVICE
Wi-Fi is fast (200+ Mbps) and reliable, and cell service is great - Verizon and AT&T have excellent coverage. We do not know if other networks/operators have the same great service, but if not, we suggest activating wi-fi calling on your phone.
The water is safe to drink and tastes great. We have a UV water filter which removes all viruses, bacteria and other microbes.
We have neighbors and their houses are visible from the bungalow. Please note that the kitchen and living room windows do not have curtains/shades.
Smallwood’s own beach with life guards, cafe, and a floating swim platform is open from June 26 and through Labor Day weekend.
CANOE, SUPS AND INNERTUBES
The stay includes complimentary use of a canoe (which sits right by the lake), two inflatable stand-up paddle boards, as well as inner tubes for four people.
Mountain Lake Bungalow is the perfect place to be if you want to escape the city heat! In the summertime, we have the smart AC Midea (highly rated, quiet and efficient) installed in both bedrooms. They come with a remote and can also be controlled via your phone. The kitchen and living room area stays fairly cool and the windows and doors can be opened (with screens) for cross ventilation. In addition to summer temperatures not getting as high up in the Catskills, the trees around the house provide a lot of shade in the summertime. We also have an umbrella that can be used on the deck for additional shade.
The bungalow stays warm and cozy in the wintertime! We have smart thermostats that you can adjust to your liking. We also have a gas fireplace in the living room that provides a lot of heat, as well as a portable Dyson heater. We have a generator that can be started in case of a longer electricity outage in the wintertime.
Two small to medium-size well-behaved and housebroken pets (up to 55 lbs/pet) per stay are allowed. Pets left unattended at the cabin must be in a crate or pet carrier. Pets must be on leash when outside and pet waste must be picked up and discarded.
We share a digital guide with our guests featuring our recommendations on things to do, sights to see, places to eat, and what not to miss.
