The Cabin is on a campsite in the Village of Bishopthorpe, very close the Bishopthorpe Palace, the home to Dr John Sentanu the current Archbishop of York.
This a great rural location to explore both the local countryside and the historic city. Walking through the leafy lanes will bring you to the ancient village of Bishopthorpe, first mentioned in the Domesday book in 1194 and a favourite destination for travellers and race-goers, as it has been for many centuries. Although the village has expanded in recent years, the quaint character of the village remains untouched by time. The Old Main Street, with its Post Office, Butchers, 3 lovely village Pubs, Co-op Grocery Shop, and the beautiful cottages have hardly changed at all. The Ebor Pub (the name is derived from the Roman name for York…Eboracum) is a Gastropub offering delicious home cooked food, Sam Smiths ales and has a large beer garden, live music and occasionally you might be lucky to catch traditional displays of Morris dancing. The Marcia Pub has a relaxing traditional bar serving light bites and fine ales, and you can also dine on classic British pub food in their restaurant, or attend their Wednesday Quiz Night and maybe enjoy their frequent live music nights. The Woodman Pub offers a large selection of ales, including locally produced guest ales, in a relaxed atmosphere with open fires and a varied menu from light bites, to comfort food, and classic British fare.
Your Blue Cabin is private, you will have a key and can lock your door. You can use the campground facilities, the Riverside Rest cabin for cappuccinos, bacon sandwiches
The Blue Cabin is a Shepherd's hut (or wagon) and since the 15th century up to the 20th Century, were used by shepherds during sheep raising and lambing, primarily in the United Kingdom and France.
The Cabin is on the Riverside Campground in Bishopthorpe, next to the River Ouse, only 2 1/2 miles from York city centre, 10 mins by car, 15 mins by bike and 20 minutes by bus.
